AAMU career development staffers focus on the media industry

Alabama A&M University is sponsoring AAMU Careers in Communications and Media April 2-4 with a series of top-notch speakers and panelists.

Facilitated by Career Development Services (CDS), the communications-focused activity will feature a presentation by AAMU 1994 alumnus Julian Green, vice president of communications and community outreach for the Chicago Cubs.  Green will speak at a 5 p.m. reception in the Knight Reception Center on Tuesday, April 2.  All panel and roundtable discussions will be held in the Clyde Foster Auditorium of the College of Business and Public Affairs.

The three days of activities start at 12:30 p.m. with the first panel discussion on Tuesday, April 2, featuring Claire Aiello, vice president of marketing and communications, Huntsville/Madison County Chamber of Commerce; Jenny Askins, executive vice president, Rocket City Trash Pandas; and Lori Miller, director of research, WHNT-TV 19.

The two panel discussions will be held on Wednesday, April 3.  The 12 noon panel will feature Kristina L. Hendrix, manager, corporate communications, Dynetics, Inc.; Stuart Langston, production manager, iHeart Media; and Jamal Williams, anchor, WDEF Chattanooga Morning Show.  The afternoon panel, scheduled at 5 p.m., will feature Kenny Anderson, multicultural affairs officer, City of Huntsville; Thometta Cozart, Health Equity Internship Program Manager for the Association of State Public Health Nutritionists; Tiffini Grimes, executive associate athletics director/chief diversity officer, University of Alabama; Dr. Henry Hobbs, vice president of employee engagement, Huntsville Utilities; and Jamal Williams, anchor of the WDEF Chattanooga Morning Show.

On Thursday, April 4, two additional discussions will be held at 12:30 p.m. and 5 p.m.  The first session will feature Stuart Langston, production manager, iHeart Media; Margetta Thomas, media relations specialist for HudsonAlpha Institute for Biotechnology; Becky Shores, creative services director, WHNT News 19; and David Bier, senior vice president operations, Rocket City Trash Pandas.

The final "Face2Face Roundtable Discussion" at 5 p.m. captures the perspectives of Debra Daniel, communications specialist, Marketing and Public Relations, Alabama A&M University; Elvin Jenkins, director, Electronic Media Communications, Alabama A&M University; and Becky Shores, creative services director, WHNT News 19.
