The Alabama Forestry Foundation has named AAMU Urban Regional Extension Agent Roosevelt Robinson the Alabama Project Learning Tree Educator of the Year. The Foundation honored Robinson for his commitment to engaging educators in hands-on environmental education experiences.

“We are pleased to present the award to Roosevelt Robinson,” said Alabama Project Learning Tree Coordinator Ashley Smith. “He grows others’ enthusiasm for conservation and environmental education through his programs. We love that he uses Project Learning Tree!”

Project Learning Tree is an award-winning environmental education program for K-12 students.

He works in the Montgomery County Extension Office, one of Extension’s nine Urban Centers in Alabama. His outreach programs for students include water quality assessments, songbird recovery, forest literacy, and more.

“Everyone has a responsibility to protect the environment,” states Robinson. “Educators share in a unique position to protect the environment as they play an enormous role in cultivating the actions and attitudes of future generations. Conservation education affords teachers a way to connect appreciation of the natural world to academics.”
