Glenn Explores Faith and Science in New Book ‘Chasing God’

Dr. Chance Glenn Sr., a professor of electrical engineering in the College of Engineering, Technology and Physical Sciences at Alabama A&M University, has published his first personal book, “Chasing God: A personal journey to understand the nature of God in an age of science and technology.”

Available on Amazon in e-book and paperback formats, the self-published work offers a reflective and deeply personal account of Glenn’s effort to reconcile the worlds of science and spirituality.

“I have walked in both worlds, and the questions I have struggled with are probably similar to those that many others have,” said Glenn. “This book is my attempt to share that journey honestly.”

A native of Newark, New Jersey, who grew up in Dothan, Alabama, Glenn began his collegiate career at Alabama A&M before earning a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from the University of Maryland, College Park. He later completed both his master’s degree and Ph.D. in electrical engineering at Johns Hopkins University and earned a management development certificate from the Harvard Graduate School of Education.

Glenn’s professional journey includes serving as a faculty member and associate dean at Rochester Institute of Technology, dean of Alabama A&M’s College of Engineering, Technology and Physical Science from 2012 to 2019, and provost at the University of Houston-Victoria from 2019 to 2025. He returned to Alabama A&M in 2025 to focus on teaching and research in areas such as robotics, additive manufacturing and advanced propulsion.

In addition to his academic work, Glenn is the founder of Morningbird Space Corporation, which collaborates with the AAMU-RISE Foundation to commercialize emerging technologies, including innovations in robotics and STEM education.

Glenn said he began writing “Chasing God” after stepping away from administrative leadership, using the time to reflect on questions he had carried for years.

“Over time, I realized I needed to write about things I’ve always questioned,” he said. “I felt it was time to put something out into the world about something I care deeply about.”

The book is designed for readers seeking answers to life’s most persistent questions, particularly those navigating the intersection of faith, purpose and scientific understanding.

“They will learn that it is okay to ask questions,” said Glenn. “It is okay to not have all the answers. The journey is in seeking, and you may learn a lot about yourself along the way. There are similarities and differences between science and spirituality.”

Beyond academia, Glenn’s creative pursuits extend into music. A Grammy-nominated artist, he released a Christmas album, “A Christmas Gift,” in 2024, recorded in his engineering lab at Alabama A&M, adding another dimension to a career that bridges innovation and artistry.

Glenn also continues to expand his creative and professional portfolio, with plans for another book focused on building and strengthening professional networks, as well as a future creative project.

“I love to create,” he said. “This book is just another opportunity to do that. I hope that someone gets something out of it.”
