Event Marks APLU Conference’s First Visit to AAMU
Office of Research and Development Hosts APLU Conference
The AAMU Office of Research and Development hosted the Association of Public and Land-Grant
University (APLU) Conference Monday-Tuesday on campus. Over 50 researchers from across
the country attended the event consisting of sessions geared toward further positioning
institutions for research success.
This was AAMU’s first time hosting the APLU conference, which provides professional
development for senior research leaders across various topics.
Several senior research officers presented insights on the field through the lens
of expansive careers in research. Among presenters was Dr. Luis Cifuentes, Vice President
for Research and Economic Development at the University of New Mexico, who discussed
the difference in mission and priorities working at an R1 land grant and a R1 flagship.
“We are appreciative of the opportunity to bring this event to our campus,” said Dr.
Majed Dweik, Vice President for Research and Economic Development at Alabama A&M.
“I have to thank Dr. Kevin Cooke and Ms. Abigael Eshete for asking us to host APLU.”
