First-Gen Fridays: Alumna to Share Financial Literacy Insights

The Office of Multicultural Affairs (OMA) continues its Spring 2025 First-Gen Fridays series with an essential session on financial literacy. The event will take place on Friday, March 21, at 3:00 p.m. in Buchanan Hall Auditorium.

Leading the discussion is alumna and Financial Advisor at Sage Spring Wealth Partners, Elisa Leftridge Jones. A first-generation college graduate, Jones earned her Bachelor of Science in Finance at Alabama A&M before obtaining a Master of Business Administration from Tennessee State University. Jones has been registered with the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) since 2001, holding Series 6, 7, 63, and 65 registrations, along with life and health insurance licenses.

First-Gen Fridays are designed to foster a sense of belonging and enhance engagement, retention, and success among first-generation students. These monthly gatherings provide opportunities for students to connect with peers, faculty, and staff who share similar experiences, while also gaining valuable insights into resources, programs, and services.

This session aims to empower students with financial literacy skills that will support their academic journey and long-term financial success.

“Creating a financial literacy workshop for first-generation college students is a great way to equip them with essential skills for managing their money and planning for the future,” said OMA Director Dr. Pamela Little. “College is a great time for students to start building positive financial habits, such as saving, investing, and setting financial goals. First-generation students who are financially literate can establish good financial practices early on, which will benefit them long after they graduate.”

Students are encouraged to attend and take advantage of this opportunity to gain financial knowledge that will benefit them both in school and beyond.
