Alabama A&M Hosts Free Tax Clinic Ahead of October 15 Filing Deadline

Alabama A&M University is extending a valuable service to the community by offering free tax preparation for individuals who filed for a tax extension earlier this year. The clinic operates under the IRS Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program, a federal initiative designed to ensure taxpayers in underserved communities can file their returns accurately and without charge.

The extended filing deadline for 2024 tax returns is October 15. To help meet that date, AAMU will host tax preparation sessions at the AAMU Welcome Center, 3900 Meridian St N, Huntsville, AL 35811, on the following dates:

  • September 19 – 20 | 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
  • September 26 – 27 | 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
  • October 3 – 4 | 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

The program is hosted by AAMU’s College of Business and Public Affairs and staffed by trained student volunteers in business, finance, and accounting. Students work under the supervision of experienced faculty and certified professionals, offering both a community resource and an important opportunity for hands-on learning.

Alabama A&M is the only historically Black college or university (HBCU) to receive the IRS VITA Grant, underscoring its leadership in providing equitable access to financial services.

What to bring:

  • A valid photo ID
  • Social Security cards or ITINs for yourself, your spouse, and dependents
  • Proof of income (W-2s, 1099s, etc.)
  • Any additional tax-related documents

IRS-certified AAMU volunteers are prepared to deliver accurate, free, and timely assistance for community members ahead of the October deadline.
