Kidd Selected to Speak at Southeast ACT Conference

The organization that administers the ACT, a standardized test used for college admissions in the United States, recently selected Dr. Selicia Kidd, Director of Testing Services at Alabama A&M University, to speak at the Southeast ACT Conference at the University of Alabama Bryant Conference Center.

ACT State Organizations is a network of teachers, counselors, administrators, enrollment advisors and business professionals, represented in all 50 states, that work to shape the education and workforce landscape at local and state levels.

Kidd’s presentation, “Meet Me in the Middle (School): Be the Next Black College
Grad Who Rocks,” highlights common barriers many minority students face when it comes to preparing for college and careers.

“There is a gap," says Kidd. "Standardized scores and transcripts exhibit a lack of preparation for
post-secondary general education courses for minority students when compared to their ethnic counterparts. I engaged in discussions on how to support minority students in achieving individual, educational, and career readiness."

During the conference, Kidd was chosen to participate in a small group conversation comprised of CEO Janet Godwin and subject matter experts sharing insight on how ACT can be a better partner to students and service users at postsecondary institutions.

“As a first-generation college graduate, I am very passionate about preparing and
empowering our minority students with resources to achieve success,” says Kidd. “I was truly
grateful to be selected to share innovative approaches to level opportunities for our students.”

Kidd holds a B.A. in History from Louisiana State University, a Master of Public
Administration from Troy University, and an EdD in Educational Leadership and Professional Practice from Trevecca Nazarene University.
