AAMU Launches Rich Heritage, Bold Future Strategic Plan

Alabama A&M University has officially launched its 2025-2035 Strategic Plan. The "Rich Heritage, Bold Future" plan is a new roadmap designed to build on a decade of institutional progress while positioning AAMU to become the premier 1890 Land-Grant institution.

The plan arrives at a pivotal moment for the University. An assessment of Alabama A&M’s 2015–2025 Strategic Plan revealed significant gains, particularly in recent years, across enrollment, academic innovation, infrastructure development, fundraising, research productivity and institutional visibility. The new plan embraces continuous improvement and builds on that momentum while addressing emerging opportunities and areas for growth.

Guided by the University’s sesquicentennial theme, “Rich Heritage. Bold Future.”, the 2025-2035 Strategic Plan centers AAMU’s land-grant mission within a framework designed to connect institutional priorities to measurable outcomes.

At its center is “The House,” a strategic framework that aligns the University around three institutional destinations: Student Success, Research Excellence and Regional Impact. The framework incorporates priorities focused on transformative student experiences, operational effectiveness, brand visibility and strategic engagement, community partnerships and research, supported by stronger institutional data, analytics and decision-making systems.

Development of the plan included a comprehensive review of the previous decade, along with interviews, think tanks, divisional planning sessions and engagement with faculty, staff, administrators and other University stakeholders.

More than a statement of aspirations, the plan establishes mechanisms for implementation, accountability and continuous measurement—including enhanced data governance, analytics and performance dashboards.

As Alabama A&M moves beyond its historic 150th anniversary, the 2025–2035 Strategic Plan provides a blueprint for translating the University’s momentum into its next decade of excellence, impact and leadership.
