Alabama A&M Hosts Spring 2026 Career Preparedness Week

Alabama A&M University students are sharpening their professional skills and preparing for future careers during Career Development Services’ Spring 2026 Career Preparedness Week, a three-day series of virtual and in-person events designed to help students stand out in a competitive job market.

Career Preparedness Week runs Jan. 21–23 and offers students free professional LinkedIn headshots, resume reviews, mock interviews, networking opportunities and a chance to compete for cash prizes in a 30-second elevator pitch competition. The events also help students learn more about internships, co-ops and full-time career opportunities with employers from industry and government.

The week began Jan. 21 with the Meet Our Sponsors and Industry and Government Cluster in the Welcome Center first-floor conference room. Students met recruiters, networked with employers and received free professional headshots for Handshake and LinkedIn profiles.

On Jan. 22, students can test their communication skills during the “Shoot Your Shot” 30-Second Elevator Pitch Competition, held virtually via Zoom. Round one takes place from 12:30 to 2 p.m., followed by round two from 3 to 3:15 p.m. The solo competition challenges students to deliver a concise elevator pitch to a panel of judges. Finalist pitches will be recorded, and winning videos will be shared on social media. Business professional attire is recommended. Cash prizes will be awarded, with first place receiving $500, second place $250 and third place $150. Winners will be announced at 3:30 p.m.

Career Preparedness Week concludes Jan. 23 with resume reviews and mock interviews from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Welcome Center first-floor conference room. Students will receive personalized feedback on their resumes and practice interview skills with employers during 20-minute sessions offered on a first-come, first-served basis. Business casual attire is encouraged, but all students are welcome to participate.

The events serve as preparation for Alabama A&M’s in-person Career Week, scheduled for Feb. 18–20. Activities begin Feb. 18 with resume reviews from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Ernest Knight Center reception room, followed by a sponsors VIP reception and mock check presentations from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. and a speed networking event and reception from 4 to 5:30 p.m.

The Career Fair will be held Feb. 19 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the University Fitness and Recreation Center gym. Interview Day follows Feb. 20 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., also at the University Fitness and Recreation Center.

Career Development Services will host several additional events throughout the Spring 2026 semester, including ongoing virtual panel discussions during “Work-It Wednesdays” and the 51st Youth Motivation Task Force and Outreach Program in March.
