Weeklong Camp Gives Grades 8–12 Experience with AAMU’s Renowned Band Program

Alabama A&M to Welcome Young Musicians to 2025 Arthur B. Wesley Summer Band Camp
The sound of drums, brass and spirited marching will fill the Alabama A&M University campus this summer as it hosts the 2025 Arthur B. Wesley High School Summer Band Camp from Sunday, June 8, through Saturday, June 14. Designed for students in grades 8 through 12, the weeklong immersive experience invites instrumentalists, color guard, and dance members to hone their craft under the direction of Alabama A&M's celebrated band program.
Participants will live on campus in the modern Hugine Residence Hall and enjoy full meals as they dive into daily practices, technique workshops, and evening social activities. The camp provides a unique opportunity for high school students to work closely with University professors, student leaders, and a special guest while learning the signature style of the Marching Maroon and White Band (MMW).
“Our staff will teach and reinforce the fundamentals needed to improve performance skills on each student’s instrument,” said Director of Bands Carlton Wright. “They’ll also learn the MMW marching style, which is an integral part of the Alabama A&M University Band tradition. And just as important, we make time for students to bond and enjoy themselves outside of practice each day.”
The camp is named in honor of legendary band director Arthur B. Wesley, who led the program for 36 years from 1973 to 2009. His legacy continues to inspire generations of musicians at the University.
Now in its second year, the Arthur B. Wesley Band Camp aims to create an educational and exciting environment that introduces high school students to the collegiate band experience. Along with musical development, the camp also offers scholarship opportunities.
Camp costs are $430 for overnight campers, $270 for day campers, and $300 for chaperones. School and community groups must provide one chaperone for every fifteen campers.
