Jermany Builds New Career Path in Huntsville’s Growing Tech Sector

Janai Jermany will earn her master’s degree in business administration during Alabama A&M University’s Fall 2025 Commencement on Dec. 12. The Oakland, California, native and soon to be two-time graduate has accepted a position in project support at CFD Research Corporation in Huntsville. Jermany, who earned her business administration degree at AAMU in 2024, began her new role in November after leaving a federal government position.

At CFD Research, Jermany supports the proposals and contracts department by reviewing and formatting documents and helping ensure reports are accurate and submitted on time. The company specializes in engineering simulations, advanced prototypes and innovative designs for aerospace, defense, life sciences, materials, energy and other industries.

“I’m most looking forward to learning the role and gaining new experience,” said Jermany. “It’s similar to my previous work as a contract specialist for the Army Contracting Command, but now I’ll be working with all DoD agencies, as well as NASA and biotech companies. I’m excited to compare and contrast the positions and see how my skills transfer.”

She credits her success in securing the position to a combination of experience and preparation, including interview skills she built through AAMU’s Career Development Services.

Jermany said she chose Alabama A&M because she was drawn to its motto, “Service is Sovereignty,” and quickly fell in love with the welcoming environment. She describes her years on campus as meaningful and energizing, filled with new experiences and lifelong friendships. “I loved my time on The Hill. I met some truly amazing people, made great friends and experienced many new things,” she said. The events and activities across campus made my college experience especially memorable. There is always something happening for students to enjoy.”

During her undergraduate studies, Jermany was a member of the AAMU Gospel Choir, serving two years as financial secretary. She also participated in the Boeing-AAMU Internship Program her senior year. She credits Dr. Charles Richardson and Dr. Augustine Dike for helping her map out her long-term goals and consistently encouraging her to strive for excellence.

Her family will also be present to cheer her on at commencement, including her mother, Wanda Floyd; her sisters, Jada Graves and Jasmine Graves, who is currently a junior business administration major at AAMU; and her brother, Eric Graves. She adds she is deeply grateful for their encouragement. “I’d like to thank my family and my friends for their unwavering support.”

Jermany plans to continue her education through certificate programs or an additional degree. Her ultimate career goal is to one day help build and operate a women’s and children’s hospital in an underserved community and ultimately become a sought-after business consultant for large organizations. She plans to remain closely connected to AAMU and expects to return regularly for major events, especially Homecoming. “My kids will be future Bulldogs if I have any say.”

Her advice for future students – “You’re here to have fun and create memories, but your primary goal should always be to cross that stage with your degree in hand. There are so many people on campus who make it their business to see you succeed, so don’t be afraid to ask for help when you need it.”
