Oluwoye to Evaluate and Recommend Students for Fulbright Scholarships
Oluwoye Appointed to Fulbright U.S. Student Program Committee
Dr. Jacob Oluwoye, a distinguished professor emeritus specializing in transportation and environmental health in Alabama A&M University's Department of Community and Regional Planning, has been appointed to the Fulbright U.S. Student Program Committee.
Oluwoye is the first AAMU professor selected to serve on the prestigious committee. The Fulbright program funds American citizens pursuing undergraduate and graduate degrees to study, conduct research, or teach English abroad in over 140 countries.
The Fulbright U.S. Student Program Committee plays a crucial role in selecting candidates for this esteemed initiative. Oluwoye’s responsibilities include reviewing and evaluating applications and working with committee members to recommend semi-finalists for further consideration.
“To be the first AAMU faculty member chosen for this is a profound honor,” said Oluwoye. “I have been at AAMU for 21 years and working with our students has been incredibly rewarding. They are like family to me.”
Oluwoye will serve a three-year term on the National Screening Committee, commencing with the current competition cycle. The appointment underscores his significant contributions to higher education and his visibility in the international academic community.
“We are delighted to learn about his appointment and hope it will also open opportunities for other university faculty members to serve on this important committee,” said Dr. Deden Rukmana, chairperson of the Department of Community and Regional Planning.
