Service Is Sovereignty Society Meets

Alabama A&M University recognized faculty and staff who have crossed the 30-year mark of distinguished service, along with employees who have retired since August 2018.  Both groups were honored at the Service Is Sovereignty Society (SISS)/Retirees Program held Tuesday, August 13, at the Ernest L. Knight Reception Center.

Cheryl K. Johnson, assistant director of human resources, presided; Clayton Gibson, senior vice president for finance and administration, offered meditation and grace; and President Andrew Hugine, Jr., gave the occasion.  The response on behalf of the retirees was given by Hilda Calhoun of the College of Education, Humanities and Behavioral Sciences. while the response for new SISS members was provided by inductee Pamela Jude of the Alabama Cooperative Extension System.

Among the recent retirees present were Darlene Arnold, 34 years, North Alabama Center for Educational Excellence; Mattie Baker, 47 years, College of Agricultural, Life and Natural Sciences; Hilda Calhoun, 35 years, College of Education, Humanities and Behavioral Sciences; Girma Kebede, 27 years, Alabama Cooperative Extension System; and Loretta Townsend, 42 years, College of Education, Humanities and Behavioral Sciences.

The three participating new inductees of SISS (30 continuous years of service) were Jacqueline Flowers, Residential Life and Housing; Pamela Jude, Alabama Cooperative Extension System; and Sonya Sligh, College of Agricultural, Life and Natural Sciences.
